in progress...
On-site scientific congresses have been missed the past few years. Our community is looking forward to discussing "for real" in Metz at the SFE2-GfÖ-EEF joint meeting. However, such a meeting comes with an environmental cost and we wanted to keep it as low as possible. We engaged a number of actions, regarding communication, catering, goodies, posters... to quantify and limit the impact of our congress,
We chose to communicate by emails only, with no attachments. We did not communicate through social networks to avoid supplementary environmental costs.
We searched for a catering partner able to propose eco-responsible menus. Hence, we will eat "one day veggie", "one day organic", "one day >70% local".
Goodies will be reduced to reusable thinks, or nothing.
Labels (badges) will be plastic-free.
A local poster printing service will be organized. The idea is to limit the transport, and to use a "light" and plastic-free paper, recyclable.
The financial partners of the congress have be selected based on an ethic code of conduct, including environmental considerations.
The carbon footprint of the congress will be assessed and a "guide for organizing eco-responsible scientific congresses" will be written, including recommendations for future events, pointing the limits we encountered and possible improvements.
